The proposed Regional Fire Authority boundaries are the current boundaries of the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County Fire District 8 combined. The proposed RFA would cover over 50 square miles and serve a daytime population of almost 110,000 from 11 stations, one being a medic unit station located outside the RFA boundaries near the intersection of Smith Road and Hannegan Road. Last year the City of Bellingham Fire Department and Whatcom County Fire District 8 had over 18,000 calls for service, an average of 49 calls per day.
